Tetsuya Nomura the director of the Final Fantasy VII Remake was recently interviewed by the Italian gaming website Multiplayer. During the interview Nomura admitted that the FF7 Remake was announced “too early” but that the reason they did it was because there were growing rumors about it in the gaming news sphere and they did not want it leaked so they made sure to be the ones to officially announce it first. He mentioned that he was aware of the negative impact an early announcement can have on the fans and how he acknowledges the outcome usually results in fans asking for more trailers or information and growing disappointed when nothing is shown.

It seems like there is a bit of a disconnect between the higher ups at Square Enix deciding to announce something early and the actual developers that wish to wait until they have almost completed the project.
